How would they use their abilities?: Honestly? Just to battle, develop stronger friendships and make people happy. As a Pokemon Trainer, while Hilda wants her Pokemon to be strong in battle, she also cherishes them and their well being. She's a responsible girl - she wouldn't let any of her Pokemon hurt people, nor command them to do anything of the sort.

Appearance: Cute and sporty! She's about 5'4" and 110 lbs, with long, wavy brown hair and blue eyes. She has a banana shaped body type, and usually wears clothes good for travel. Her main look is a white tank top with a black vest, shorts (comfy and easy to wear!) and hiking boots, along with her ever-precious hat. She's got a bit of a tomboy look going on, and she embraces it. Here's a picture.

Background/Personality:

Background
 :

Hilda grew up and spent most of her youth in Nuvema Town, a sleepy dot on the map in the south of Unova. She grew up with her mom and had a good relationship with her, with her dad seemingly out of the picture. Also living in the town are her two best friends since childhood, Bianca and Cheren. When Hilda decided she wanted to leave home to go on a Pokemon journey, her mother was willing to let her leave on her own, unlike Bianca's father. Each received their own starter Pokemon, and they set out to defeat all 8 Pokemon Gyms of Unova to challenge the Pokemon League. However, their separate journeys are interrupted at several points by the actions of Team Plasma, a group of people who want to work towards "Pokemon liberation" - the goal for all trainers to release their Pokemon. Early on in her journey Hilda encounters a strange boy who is watching over Team Plasma's speech, going only by the letter "N". He seems to agree with what Team Plasma is saying, in addition to apparently having the ability to hear the voices of her Pokemon. Once he leaves, Hilda thinks about what Team Plasma is doing. Is Pokemon liberation really the way to go?

However, once she sees Team Plasma's methods of getting people to release their Pokemon (spoiler alert: it isn't good), her views begin to stop wavering and she takes the side that Pokemon and people can and should live in harmony. N continuously tries to explain and justify his beliefs that they shouldn't to her when they meet, up until their meeting at Nimbasa City. He takes her on a ferris wheel ride for privacy, and he reveals that he is the king of Team Plasma itself. This finally sets her own opinions into stone, and she continues to stand by them through the rest of the game. At the same time, N is plotting his final plan to make Pokemon liberation a reality - using the legendary dragon Zekrom  to force all people to release their Pokemon. Hilda, not taking his words as a possible truth, continues on her journey and earns all 8 gym badges. After another confrontational with Team Plasma at Dragonspiral Tower, it becomes evident that N's blabber was actually serious. He's in possession of the  Dark Stone, which has awakened it's respective dragon. Shit's starting to get real, so she's entrusted with the opposite stone as the only one who has the power to take on N.
Fast forward, and she's defeated all members of the Elite Four. When she reaches the champion's room, she sees that N has just defeated him. After some mocking, a castle that was set up around the Leauge bursts out of the ground and assimilates in the sky. N ascends to take his place at the throne, and Hilda follows him.

At the peak of the castle, N summons Zekrom  to take her on in a final battle. However, Hilda's stone begins to react and Reshiram appears before her. N invites her to try and capture the dragon, and their battle initiates once she does. After some hard fighting, she defeats N and Ghetsis, one of the Seven Sages of Team Plasma, shows up and reveals that he is the true Big Bad of the whole operation, only using N as a puppet. Hilda defeats Ghetsis and he is taken away by the International Police, leaving N and Hilda alone. He expresses to her how she's helped to show that views on an argument can always have two sides. He tells her to pursuit her dreams and find her truth before flying out of the castle.

Now that her main adventure has ended, Hilda has taken up the task of finding the remaining Sages who have gone into hiding around Unova.

Personality:

First and foremost, as in all Pokemon games, Hilda is a "silent" protagonist. However, the NPCs of the game and the way that they speak to and about her give her a solid personality

Hilda is described as "a young girl with a lively style". She is a very determined and inspired girl who was taught never to give up. Even her name says it - in all languages, it has something to do with "battles" or "fighting". At the beginning of the game she starts out as a brand-new Pokemon trainer from Nuvema Town, with a dream to become to travel Unova and become the best trainer she can be. She starts her journey along with her two childhood friends Cheren and Bianca. While Bianca is a bit clumsy and easygoing and Cheren is very serious and firm, Hilda remains as the neutral party - easygoing, but serious when she needs to be. Throughout her Pokemon journey, she engages in friendly Pokemon battles with both of them to help each other get stronger. She helps Cheren realize that being the Champion of the Pokemon Leauge not only has to do with strength, but with the bond you share with your Pokemon, and she helps Bianca get stronger as a person and as a trainer.

However, the biggest changing factor to her personality and how she matures throughout the game is through N, the king of Team Plasma. When they first met, he introduced Hilda to his dream of a world where Pokemon and humans are separated. This gets her thinking, to the point where she admits she's curious about how Pokemon really feel about their trainers. She's previously thought that Pokemon were happy with people, so she's trying to see both sides of the argument. As time goes by and she finds out that N is the king of Team Plasma, she decides on disagreeing with him - Pokemon and humans are meant to live in harmony. At the end of the game, she helps N understand that you can accept both sides of an argument instead of rejecting them. Opinions and beliefs do not need to be forced upon others.

When Hilda and N meet in Mistralton CIty, he learns from her team that she is truly a kind trainer and that her Pokemon enjoy being under her care. This surprises N, and he uses her ways of training as an example for how others should treat their Pokemon:
"If every person and Pokémon cared about one another like you two do, I could watch over the future of people and Pokémon without having to liberate Pokémon from people who just use them."

If N, who has a pure heart and can speak with and understand Pokemon, can tell Hilda that her Pokemon care for her and vice versa, that's saying a lot. N is not an easily swayed or impressed person, so this is an indication of what kind of trainer she is - strong, but kind. She was also recognized by Reshiram as a hero along with N and Zekrom, which only proves the point further.

All in all, Hilda has learned a lot on her journey. She's won many battles, lost a few, made new friends both Pokemon and human alike, and she's seen seen Unova in it's entirety. Since becoming the league champion, not much changed other than the title. She still kept Bianca and Cheren as close friends, even battling them now and again to keep up their strength. From her canon point, her new goal is to help Professor Juniper by completing the Pokedex. It's big, but she has no qualms or fears in tackling it. A Pokemon Trainer's work is never finished, after all!

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep! The Guide plug-in is called the "Flaming Ferret". Hilda can get money by getting a job, stealing money or borrowing from a friend.

1st person sample:
Here, at my other game for her.

3rd person sample:
After doing some exploring and meeting up with a friend or two that she knew from home, Hilda's brief time on the S.S. Thor hadn't been so bad. The place was huge, she had access to all her Pokemon, and things seemed to be pretty okay.. and yet, something was bothering her more than she let on.

She had told Bianca that she wanted to do some exploring on her own, but she really just needed to be alone for a while. Walking around aimlessly brought her to an observation deck of some sort - a large window lay in front of her where she could see the very same stars she looked up to in the night sky at home. Taking a seat, she leaned back and sighed.

Her world was gone... that's what they had said, anyway. Everything was destroyed - Unova, the other regions, her friends that weren't here... and N. She didn't know where he was - she didn't even know if they could be considered friends. And yet, she's worried for him. If the world was destroyed... well. There wasn't much hope for anyone, was there?

She feels a lump in her throat, but manages to swallow it down. This was no time for her to be crying. From what Bianca had said, there was always a chance for people to be brought here, regardless of time and space. Maybe if she kept an open mind and stayed optimistic, it would happen. She came here after all, right?

So the Hero of Truth stands up and picks out a star out of the millions on the pitch black palate, making a wish for all of her friends, family, and the world she held dear to be somehow be safe. It's the only thing she can do on this ship, but somehow it feels like she's made a difference.
